“Research Starts with Curiosity" Research questions are everywhere. What are you curious about? This presentation will explain how research fits into HW2020 and the 10 Essential Services, identify ways it can benefit public health nursing practice, discuss questions that need to be answered when beginning a project, provide reasons why working with academics/ researchers is necessary, and describe examples of collaborative research using a panel presentation format.
“Research is a Process” The research process for local health departments begins with selecting an area of interest and defining the problem, engaging an academic or researcher to partner with, reviewing the literature, and determining the purpose and design of the study. In the research process approval is obtained for the study via an Institutional Review Board (IRB), data is collected (quantitative and/or qualitative) through surveys, interviews, or observations and then is analyzed and interpreted. This presentation will review this process with participants and apply it to an area of public health interest.
“InformedCaring.org: Your Portal to Information Resources for Health Professionals” InformedCaring.org is a statewide project designed to serve those working in local health departments, federally qualified community health centers, and others providing health services in rural and underserved communities in Wisconsin -- particularly those without access to academic or hospital libraries. Although the site has been designed with these groups in mind, it is not password protected and is available to all. This presentation will demonstrate a brief overview of the site.
“How to Tell the Exciting News (Dissemination)” As a profession, nursing has its own language and body of knowledge. Research builds both of these, but once you have completed your research, how do you share the findings with others in public health ?? This presentation will explore modes and examples of research dissemination.
